Job Title: Peer Educator (PEERsuader)

​Supervised by: Peer Educator Supervisor

Position Summary 

The Peer Educator (PEERsuader) supports the development, empowerment, and well-being of young people by providing peer-based education and outreach focused on promoting healthy relationships and risk-free lifestyle choices among youth. This role supports evidence-based healthy relationship programming by helping young people build life skills, strengthen self-worth, and make informed decisions that prevent high-risk behaviors. This role involves facilitating discussions, delivering workshops, connecting youth to resources, and serving as a positive role model within the community or program.

Key Responsibilities 

Peer Education & Facilitation 

  • Deliver or co-facilitate curriculum sessions, workshops, and discussions with youth participants by using engaging, relatable approaches.  

  • Develop presentations and digital content based upon lessons taught in the curriculum; must share digital content for both MTCI and personal social media platforms. 

  • Define sexual risk avoidance principles as the best message regarding sexuality amongst teens.  

  • Must wear MTCI uniform at events, as mandated.  

Outreach & Engagement 

  • Assist with recruiting youth for programs, events, and workshops. 

  • Facilitate presentations and engage with youth in schools, community centers, or youth groups, teen summits and health fairs to build awareness of healthy relationship topics. 

  • Promote program participation using peer networks, social media (as appropriate), and community outreach strategies. 

  • Assist with annual college and career tour.  

Program Implementation Support 

  • Maintain contact with Peer Education Supervisor via email, text and calls.  

  • Participate in workforce development through job shadowing.  

  • Assist Peer Education Supervisor in preparing materials, setting up sessions, and organizing youth activities. 

  • Contribute youth perspectives during curriculum reviews and program planning. 

  • Help create youth-friendly educational materials, presentations, and activities that align with the mission of More Than Conquerors, Inc. 

Documentation & Reporting 

  • Record attendance, session evaluations, and participant feedback as required. 

  • Uphold strict confidentiality and follow all youth protection policies. 

  • Provide timely reports or reflections to Peer Education Supervisor. 

  • Must respond to all work-related emails within 24 hours. 

Performance Standard 

  • Strong commitment to MTCI values and willingness to serve as a positive peer role model demonstrating healthy decision-making and strong character. 

  • Must not participate in sexual activity.  

  • Must remain free of pregnancy or fathering a child.  

  • Must maintain a GPA of 2.5. 

  • Must attend at least 80% of mandatory workdays as listed on calendar, arriving on time and leaving time.  

  • Strong communication, active listening, and peer engagement skills. 

  • Ability to use word processing software.  

  • Ability to maintain respectful behavior at home, in school, and in the community.  

  • Ability to maintain self-control and work well within a group. 

  • Ability to receive correction and immediately adjust.  

  • Must have good leadership potential.

Conditions of Employment 

  • Must be a high school-aged student between the ages of 14 to 19.  

  • Part-time, grant-funded position that primarily convenes via Zoom on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30pm – 8:00pm. Community service projects are completed in person.  

  • $13/hour for approximately 15 hours/per month in accordance with the MATURE Plus IV Demonstration Grant.  

  • Must successfully complete 100% of orientation and training.  

  • Must be available to work some weekends, evenings and nights as required.  

  • Potential for overnight travel includes approximately 1-3 days and nights per year.  

  • Must have reliable transportation.  

  • Parents must participate in four (4) mandatory parent forums and information sessions as cited on the annual calendar. (Orientation, Teen Summit, Summer Enrichment Closing Program, workday choice) 

  • Annual performance evaluation by August.  

 

Working Conditions 

  • Environment: Community sites as determined by the PEER Education Supervisor and MTCI.  

  • Physical Abilities:  

  • Dexterity of upper extremities to operate computer, standard office equipment, as well as assemble supplies, programs, curriculum, etc.  

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.  

  • Able to lift up to 30 pounds. 

  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information on the telephone and/or in person. 

  • Bending at waist, reaching overhead, above shoulders and horizontally.
