Job Title: Peer Educator (PEERsuader)

Pay Rate: $13.00/hour
Position Type: Schedule: Part-time, school-friendly hours
Position Overview
The PEERsuader is a paid youth leadership role for high school students who want to promote positive messages, healthy choices, and community pride among peers and younger youth. The position supports youth development programs by helping to educate, mentor, and engage peers through workshops, group discussions, and outreach activities in a safe, supportive environment. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with others, sharing knowledge, and serving as a positive role model within their community.
All duties comply with Georgia child labor laws and federal youth employment regulations.
Key Responsibilities

Promote positive behaviors such as healthy decision-making, respect, and drug-free lifestyles.

Serve as positive role models and peer mentor to participants.

Help create and share positive messages in schools, social media, and community events.

Develop presentations and digital content based upon lessons taught in the curriculum; must share digital content for both MTCI and personal social media platforms.

Support non-hazardous community activities and youth programs.

Attend regular training sessions, team meetings, and supervision check-ins.

Define sexual risk avoidance principles as the best message regarding sexuality amongst teens.

Promote program participation using peer networks, social media (as appropriate), and community outreach strategies.

Facilitate or co-facilitate workshops, presentations, and group discussions on topics such as health, leadership, life skills, and community engagement.

Support outreach and recruitment for youth programs or events.

Assist staff with program planning, setup, and evaluation activities.

Assist with annual college and career tour.

Provide feedback to program staff about participant needs and session outcomes.

Maintain contact with Peer Education Supervisor via email, text and calls.
-
Provide timely reports or reflections to Peer Education Supervisor.

Must respond to all work-related emails within 24 hours.

Follow all safety rules, conduct policies, and supervision guidelines.

Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with peers.
-
Must wear MTCI uniform at events, as mandated.
Qualifications
-
Must be between 14-19 years old.
-
Be enrolled in high school (grades 9–12).
-
Obtain a Georgia work permit if under age 16.

Maintain school attendance and good standing.
-
Have parent/guardian consent.
-
Strong commitment to MTCI values and willingness to serve as a positive peer role model demonstrating healthy decision-making and strong character.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
-
Reliable, responsible, maintain self-control, and can work independently or as part of a team.

Interest in helping others learn and grow.
-
Must remain free of pregnancy or fathering a child.

Must maintain a GPA of 2.5.
-
Must attend at least 80% of mandatory workdays as listed on calendar, arriving on time and leaving time.

Ability to receive corrections and immediately adjust.

Prior experience in youth programs, mentoring, or facilitation is helpful but not required.
Training provided.
All assigned duties will be age-appropriate and non-hazardous, in compliance with Georgia and federal youth labor laws.
Condition of Employment
-
Must be a high school-aged student between the ages of 14 to 19.
-
Part-time, grant-funded position that primarily convenes via Zoom on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30pm – 8:00pm, as well as an in-person minimum of 1 Saturday per month. Community service projects are completed in person.

Must successfully complete 100% of orientation and training.
-
Must be available to work some weekends, evenings and nights as required.

Potential for overnight travel includes approximately 1-3 days and nights per year.

Must have reliable transportation.

Parents must participate in four (4) mandatory parent forums and information sessions as cited on the annual calendar. (Orientation, PEERsuader sponsored Community event, workday of choice and closing Program).

Annual performance evaluation.
Working Conditions
-
Environment: Community sites as determined by the PEER Education Supervisor and MTCI.

Physical Abilities:
-
Dexterity of upper extremities to operate computer, standard office equipment, as well as assemble supplies, programs, curriculum, etc.

Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
-
Able to lift up to 30 pounds.
Work Schedule and Compensation
-
Part-time; typically, 15 hours/month.
-
Some evening or weekend hours may be required.

Hourly rate: $13.00/hour.
Supervision and Support
Peer Educators work under direct adult supervision and receive:

Orientation and required job training

Ongoing mentorship and support

Safe, youth-appropriate work assignments
Work Environment
Peer Educators work in a variety of settings, including schools, community centers, and outreach events. The role may involve both in-person and virtual sessions, depending on program needs.
